CHAMP Mag: We got HUF rocking with us at the moment. What’s up?

HUF: Just got back from NYC and Berlin. We were at the trade shows out there so trying to catch up on work.

CHAMP Mag:  Now the name HUFSF. What’s the story behind that?

HUF: It was just HUF but when I went to get huf.com it was taken by an airport so we decided to make it hufsf. Since we were based in SF at that time.

CHAMP Mag: What product out of the line would you say is probably the most popular out of your line or the one you would say kinda put you guys on the map?

HUF: I do not think there is one specific product. I think there are a lot of things we have done over the years that just kinda spoke to people, and for some reason, they just like to wear our stuff.

CHAMP Mag: Now when you guys first started off the whole fashion line, what was the vision you guys had in terms of clothes that you wanted to come out with and be known for?

HUF: We always just wanted to make clothes that fit our own lifestyle. Stuff that could easily transition between skating and chilling….and would work equally well for both of those things.

CHAMP Mag: Now in terms of designs and artistic direction for the brand who comes up with the ideas?

HUF: There are many people involved.  Hanni El Khatib, Naotake Nogata, Billy Teichen, Sal Barbier and myself. It is a team effort over here at Huf. We really value the input we get from our shop employees too.

CHAMP Mag: Now are your designs made in-house or overseas?

HUF: Designs are all made in-house.

CHAMP Mag: Roughly how many pieces would you say you guys produce a year or per season?

HUF: We do about 80 Pieces per Spring and Fall and about half that for Summer and Fall. So I would say a little over 200 per year.

CHAMP Mag: Have you ever caught any celebs rockin’ some of your stuff?

HUF: Never caught them in the act but have heard about it and have seen some photos.

CHAMP Mag: In the game now, who do you think has their fashion swag up that where you’re a fan of their particular style?

HUF: No one in particular… I just like a clean, understated look.

CHAMP Mag: What are your thoughts and views on the Polo Rugby pandemic going on?

HUF: Haven’t heard about it, but have been a fan of Polo since the 80s.

CHAMP Mag: Are there any other areas of the fashion world you guys wanna explore or already in the midst of exploring at the moment?

HUFSF: We will always explore, never know where it will go!!!

CHAMP Mag: Where can people follow up and be up to date with any new collections or anything happening with HUF?

HUF: Hufsf twitter and the hufsf blog. http://blog.hufsf.com.

CHAMP Mag: Are there any exclusive HUF spots in Toronto?

HUF: I don’t know actually, we sell our stuff to our friend Gary at Take Five and he makes sure that it gets to all of Canada’s finest shops. That’s how that works.

CHAMP Mag: Anything else we can expect from HUF for 2011?

HUF: We are always working on collaborations, skating and trying to have fun.
