CHAMP Mag: Rockin’ with Rockers NYC right now. What’s goodie boss?
ROCKERS NYC: What can I say; I’m loving life right now! Big-up to the T-Dot massive!
CHAMP Mag: Now the name Rockers NYC. What’s the story behind that?
ROCKERS NYC: We were influenced by the movie Rockers – we are big fans of Jamaican cinema and we loved the theme of rebellion, but we wanted to make the name more about where we were in life at the time. Since we were living in and inspired by New York City, we added the NYC & the rest is history!
CHAMP Mag: What product would you say is probably the most popular out of your line or the one you would say kinda put you guys on the map?
ROCKERS NYC: Our tee game is heavy! I think creating graphic concepts straight from the heart has really helped build our brand!
CHAMP Mag: Now when you guys first started off the whole fashion line, what was the vision you guys had in terms of clothes that you wanted to come out with and be known for?
ROCKERS NYC: It’s always been important for us to create gear that we would want to rock ourselves! So as our own fashion and lives have changed, Rockers has gone with us.
CHAMP Mag: Now in terms of designs and artistic direction for the headwear who comes up with the ideas?
ROCKERS NYC: On the real, I have to take credit for that one! I enjoy designing caps!
CHAMP Mag: Now are your designs made in-house or overseas?
ROCKERS NYC: We are 100% designed & 100% produced in the U.S.A, mainly in Los Angeles. That’s rare these days!
CHAMP Mag: Roughly how many pieces would you say you guys produce a year or per season?
ROCKERS NYC: I would have to say around 30 – 40 looks per season so 60 – 80 looks a year. Sometimes we throw a small holiday run in there, and we do some outside collabos with Swagger in Japan a couple of times a year.
CHAMP Mag: Have you ever caught any celebs rockin’ some of your stuff?
ROCKERS NYC: For sure! Rockers have been on Lil’ Wayne, David Chappelle, Jr. Reid, Redman, and a bunch of my indie rocker homies like Modest Mouse, Blood Brothers and Gang Gang Dance!
CHAMP Mag: You guys also just dropped a mixtape. If you can educate the people on that?
Rockerys NYC: Man this could be a long answer…but to keep it short, music has always been one of the cornerstones of our brand. It inspires each collection, so with our “Why?” Mixtape series we wanted to share with the world our love for early 1990’s hip-hop. The other thing about the Why? series is that I lived this era of hip-hop, and I was there at Good Life and in the LA and Bay Area scenes. So this mixtape series is a way for me to showcase my love and respect for that time.
CHAMP Mag: In the game now, who do you think has their fashion swag up that where you’re a fan of their particular style?
ROCKERS NYC : Swagger, Phenomenon, Roc Star, Actual Pain, Witchcraft, God’s Prey and Cassette Playa.
CHAMP Mag: Are there any other areas of the fashion world you guys wanna explore or already in the midst of exploring at the moment?
ROCKERS NYC: That’s a secret for now…but stay tuned!
CHAMP Mag: Where can people follow up and be up to date with any new collections or anything happening with Rockers NYC?
ROCKERS NYC: Make sure to check out our blog at rockersnyc.com/blog, I must say it’s pretty epic…we have bloggers from all over the world contributing, plus we are always posting updates about what’s happening with Rockers.
CHAMP Mag: Are there any exclusive Rockers NYC spots in Toronto?
ROCKERS NYC: Livestock T-DOT.
CHAMP Mag: Anything else poppin with Rockers NYC for 2010?
ROCKERS NYC : BIG THINGS!!!!
