CHAMP: We got the Co-CEO of Aphilliated LAD in the building. LAD what’s goodie boss!!
La the Darkman: Just working just working LAD , La the Darkman, the President, Embassy Entertainment, Aphilliates Music Group, Gangsta Grillz. I’m here trying to make a movement baby.
CHAMP: 09 and 2010 has been looking really good for the Aphilliates Family. We got Drama killing the tape scene. We got DJs dropping bangers like everyday and Willie’s been going in. How does it feel to foresee everything happening around you man?
La the Darkman: It feel real good. Most of the things you see happening, I planned it. It was a vision. I’m a strateger behind the movement. Aphilliates management is moving we got a few artists, DJ Wikked, DJ Drama, DJ Trendsetta Sense, Head Dibiase, DJ Mase, DJ Moon Dog out of Chicago, Lil Larry out of Memphis Tennessee, so it’s like the movement is moving and to see it come in is a great feeling.
CHAMP: Now you appear to be a calm dude but the “What’s Life About Video”. That was a horror movie letting the people know what happens when you’re a foe of LAD man. Now I’m sure you’re noticing the wave of videos going on in the game right now and you’re bro Willie is even directing vids to. What visuals do you got in the works we can expect?
La the Darkman: (Laughs). I’m a cool guy man, I’m really laid back, I’m definitely a chess player know what I mean? I was raised by chess players, which is The RZA. He’s the grandmaster. The RZA and GZA are really my mentors so I’m very calm, but I’m into war a lot similar to how George Bush do it. I got my first single out called “You” ft. Bobby Valentino and Willie the Kid. It’s currently playing right now on MTV Jams, MTV2, and it starts on BET next week. I’ma be going up to host 106 and Park in the next couple weeks. It’s crazy. It’s a grown and sexy joint, my producer did the beat, you can check it on the websites, all the tv stations. It’s featuring Khandi from ATL Housewives, I got Toya from the Tiny and Toya BET show. Lil Wayne’s baby mama in the video. I got Diamond, I got Princess, like I said we rockin’ man. There’s a lot of lovely ladies.
CHAMP: You dropped the Living Notoriously mixtape joint last year. What project do we got in the works with LAD this year?
La The Darkman: The Living Notoriously mixtape, that ended up doing 100,000 in the streets independently. We probably at 110,000 now. It was a good turn out. We had between 50 and 60 thousand downloads so it was good. I got Living Notoriously part 2 coming out June 19. We ‘bout to start rockin’ that.
CHAMP: Who are some artist you’ve been working with?
LA the Darkman: I’ve been working with everybody. I got a song with Khandi from ATL Housewives, Lil Wayne, Willie the Kid of course. I don’t do too many features because I like to make sure myself that you’re hearing the right person. I got a few treats on there that you can check out for. I’m also working on the Gangsta Grillz: The Album 3, you know I’m the executive producer of all the Gangsta Grillz albums. Vol 1 with “5000 Ones” with Nelly, Jeezy; I executive produced that record. “Feds Takin’ Pictures” with Rick Ross, T.I, then we did Vol.2 with “The Love for Money” single with Trey Songz and Gucci Mane, and I wrote the hook for Trey Songz on that record. Over a million views on youtube. Now we working on Gangsta Grillz Vol.3. I got records with Chris Brown, The-Dream, got another record with Lil Wayne and Young Money. Got a new record with Tip, Gucci Mane, Soulja Boy, OJ Da Juiceman. It’s a collage. I got Jadakiss, Fabolous, a lot of the who’s who in the entertainment business.
CHAMP: Producers as well?
LA the Darkman: I got producers form Scott Storch, to the RZA, to V12 the Hitman, Havoc from Mobb Deep. I’m going in with a lot of different producers. I got Drumma Boy. I got a lot of cats and if you like the mixtape, you gon’ love the music. If you like the Gangsta Grillz album, you’ll love LAD album.
CHAMP: There’s definitely a huge following of the Aphilliates. Would it be crazy to have the possibility of the Aphilliates expanding out here in Canada?
LA the Darkman: Yeah definitely! I looked at a few DJs. I’m actually looking at a few DJS. I keep my ears to the street and that’s a definite, because we come to Canada often. We just left T-Dot like last month, so we coming back in July for Caribana, so that’s definitely a possibility. I got my eye on a few DJs out there.
CHAMP: What else can we expect from LA.?
LA the Darkman: We got a few things. You can expect some things on TV, I’m working on this DVD. Gangsta Grillz Vol. 2 DVD. I’ma be on a reality show, on the “Tiny and Toya” reality show this year. I’m tryina figure out when it’ll actually air. Working on writing a script for this movie, so we got a few things in the works. I think you’ll enjoy and be entertained by the movement.
