CHAMP: We are in gear for your sophomore release album which is titled I Am Carlos, which is your real name. Why did you choose that as the album name we were going to rock with for the title?

Shawty Lo: I am Shawty Lo as a rapper, but I had a mean life coming up as Carlos and I want to give the people the real me, the real Carlos. I don’t like to brag about it, but I came from nothing, I got 28 arrests, I’ve been convicted 4 times, I feel like I can be anywhere, I can be dead or in jail but I feel like God got me here for a reason and that’s what I’m finna  give to the world: I Am Carlos.

CHAMP: We got the album scheduled for March 2009 release. Are we still rocking with that?

Shawty Lo: It’s going to be late June or July (summer).

CHAMP: 2008 was a huge year for you. You got a BET Award under your belt, OZONE Awards. What was your mentality in 2009 leading up to 2010 when you knew you were going to release this album?

Shawty Lo: Just to get back focused because like you said I had a mean year in 2007/2008, so I just been working very hard just to get my given fan base status back to like 2007/2008. Right now I just dropped a mixtape called I’m the Man pt 3, it’s hosted by DJ Scream. People in Canada can find it on www.livemixtapes.com you can listen to it or you can download it for free. I’ve been shooting all kinds of videos just to get myself all the way back hot before I drop my album. I like to please my fans all the way and just get them back on me.

CHAMP: Who do we got featured on the album on an artist aspect, and a production aspect as well?

Shawty Lo: I work with any producer, it doesn’t matter what producer it is. Mostly I don’t mess with in-house, but you know he just will make a hot beat and if I like it I will work with it. On my new mixtape I Am the Man pt 3, I got The Dream, Ludacris, Gucci Mane, I got my group Costa Nostra Chain Gang, Lil Wayne. We just shot the video you can Google it Shawty Lo Feat. Lil Wayne “WTF” video. Google the “Atlanta, GA” video with Shawty Lo, The Dream, Gucci Mane, Ludacris. You can just check out all the things I been doing it’s all over the internet. I am on Twitter now @thatsshawtylo I just been working hard.

CHAMP: So you everywhere right now man!

Shawty Lo: Yeah I’m everywhere.

CHAMP: The last time we spoke it was on the verge of the whole T.I situation but that has been squashed. Would it be crazy for anyone to think that he may make an appearance on the album? Would that be something crazy or is that possible?

Shawty Lo: Ya’ll stay tuned everything is good, no beef, everything been good, we talking. Just stayed tuned, I got a big surprise for ya’ll this year. 2010 is going to be a great year.

CHAMP: Being the boss of D4L, we haven’t seen those guys in a minute. Has the group been scrapped? Or is there something coming up with them soon?

Shawty Lo: The team is still together. I had a business partner when I first formed D4L in 2003, things went wrong and he kind of made Fabo think he was the group. Everybody else is still there it’s just Fabo he is elsewhere that’s about it. Mook-b and Stunt man they are still there. They are in the studio everyday working hard; they are on my mixtape also will be on my new album I Am Carlos coming up.

CHAMP: Like you said earlier we got “Atlanta, GA” and “WTF” are some joints with the visuals that you dropped already. What do we got following up after those joints?

Shawty Lo: I got a new song called “Yeah”. It’s featuring Snoop Dogg, that’s a very hot track everybody is liking. I got one I did with Soulja Boy called “Ringtone” so they kind of liking that one too. Those will be the next two videos I shoot.

CHAMP: You had mention Soulja Boy. You, Soulja Boy, Gucci Mane and OJ appeared on XXL and you guys were crowned the “New South.” What did that mean to you? And is it possible that we can see some sort of collaboration out with you guys in the future?

Shawty Lo: Ain’t no telling what will happen. Shawty Lo is down for anything that makes sense. I love music, I love my fans and that’s who I do it for. So they crowned us, I am up for it. I’m up for anything that’s going to make sense and makes the fans happy.

CHAMP: Its 2010 right now, you’re starting off the year real heavy coming with visuals so you look like you have the plan right and I am anticipating this album. What else can we expect from Shawty Lo for the rest of the year?

Shawty Lo: There is going to be a promo tour plus I got my new cologne coming out, it’s called Lo Seduction. It is a very hot fragrance for the men. A year later I will be coming with the women’s fragrance. I also have my foundation It’s called Lo- Lo. I’m giving back, as a kid I was unfortunate and I am giving back to the community. I got my diabetes foundation, I am a diabetic. I got my book on my life story Cosa Nostra Chain Gang, I’m just working.
