Pokes: Sumlee Anderson Exclusive Interview W/CHAMPMAG.COM
CHAMP MAGAZINE
Nathan “Hollywood” Adom

CHAMP: What’s goodie Sumlee? What are you up to at the current moment?

SUMLEE: Smiling and making things happen (laughs).

CHAMP: Now a lot of nationalities must be thrown at you when people look at you. What background have you been told you look like and what’s your actual background?

SUMLEE: (Laughs) I have gotten everything under the sun from Persian, Indian, Latina, and Hawaiian. I’m actually Thai, German, and Swedish.

CHAMP: They say it’s wrong to ask a lady her age, but I definitely gotta know how old you are?

SUMLEE: (Laughs) If you know it’s wrong why do you have to go there? (Laughs). No, but I’m 25 years young.

CHAMP: How were you discovered and what was it about modeling that made you say you wanted to do this?

SUMLEE: As a kid I never wanted to be a model. I was a tomboy into sports but I kept getting scouted by agencies. My parents put me in pageants and I kept winning, but I never really caught interest in modeling until I broke up with an ex and took photos to make him jealous. Being in front of the camera was a rush and later it became an artistic expression.

CHAMP: What’s some of the work people can recognize you from? (Ads, Mags, Videos etc)

SUMLEE: I’ve done tons of print work and TV work. Recently shot for the cover of Import Tuner, I’ve been in Girls of Lowrider, toured with HIN, was miss HIN Arizona. I was on Entourage ,on the Spike TV show Manswers, Playboy radio, Maxim hometown Hottie Semi Finalist , MavTv Bikini All-Stars and a bunch more. I’m just trying to experience as much as possible and diversify my skills as a model.

CHAMP: Before the modeling thing what were you doing or what are you still doing?

SUMLEE: Getting into trouble but then again I still do that now (laughs). Before modeling I was playing sports. Played Junior Olympic softball. I also was majoring in biology…I swear I wanted my own zoo and if it wasn’t that, I was going to be a crime scene investigator.

CHAMP: Now I wanna see how caught up you are about the game. What’s your thoughts and views on the Tiger Woods affair?

SUMLEE: (Laughs)…Uuuuuuh in the hot seat …Political answer is it’s not my business, but real talk says he’s in the industry and people are not going to like him any less.

CHAMP: Got a favorite artist of 2009? If so, who is it and why?

SUMLEE: Honestly, I’m not into current music as much as old school . I like my 2pac, Dre, or even Sublime and Incubus. I do like some of Drakes songs too, but I love all music it heals the soul.

CHAMP: Name two truths and a lie about yourself.

SUMLEE: Truth is I don’t lie (laughs)…Let’s see. Its true I’m a home body. People think because of my pictures that I have this crazy lifestyle or I might even have a certain character but I’m actually just a goof ball. I love to laugh, chill, watch football, play video games, and just enjoy the simple things. I may look “naughty”, but I’m just a good tease.

CHAMP: Now the industry always has some laughs and funny moments on set. Name the funniest moment you’ve had on a set before?

SUMLEE: Everyday is a funny moment in the life of Sumlee Anderson especially when you live close to “Hollyweird”…I think the weirdest thing I’ve had to do is dancing and holding cards on a Spanish version of American Idol watching a little person attack the singers if they were horrible and chanting machete (laughs). It was interesting.

CHAMP: Where’s Sumlee’s man at? Are you single?

SUMLEE:  (Laughs) I don’t know when you find him you let me know. What do the men out there in Canada look like? (Laughs)  I was engaged but now I’m single and enjoying it.

CHAMP: What’s the idea dude for you?

SUMLEE: I don’t have a set ideal. I just need a man. Not a boy pretending to be a man but a man. Someone who shows me respect. Someone who can be by my side but also understand that I’m an independent woman too…Having a great butt and nice eyes isn’t bad either.

CHAMP: What’s the craziest thing a guy has done for you?

SUMLEE: Driving 500 miles to see me only for nine hrs before having to drive back.

CHAMP: What’s the lamest thing a guy has done for you?

SUMLEE: I’ve been pretty lucky in that department. I guess it would be in high school I got a note from a guy that said he had a crush on me .I had no clue who he even was, but he wrote, “if I liked him meet him by the locker at 4 and if not throw the letter in the trash” and I thought it was kinda creepy like he was watching me. I know its mean but I threw it in the trash.

CHAMP: How fair is the modeling world to women in the grand scheme of things? Is there any room for growth?

SUMLEE: There is always room at the top, but once you’re on top there is no room to sit down. It basically boils down to luck meeting opportunity. I think it’s a very tough industry. You have girls in it for just the attention, you have girls that think it only about looks, and then you have people who do it strictly out of passion. Reality is, if your idea of modeling is taking hot photos and sitting there pretty, you are not going to get vary far. Too competitive and the definition of beauty is too broad. In anything you do, you have to diversify yourself. Reach outside the box and out of your comfort level. You have to continue to grow as a talent. Find out what makes you unique and put it on blast but like I said, if more of you is doing it for reasons other than passion, your going to find yourself in a miserable circle

CHAMP: When can we expect Sumlee to come up to Toronto and party with the CHAMP team?

SUMLEE: Get the crown ready and im there.

CHAMP: What else can we expect from Sumlee?

SUMLEE: Well, right now you can see me in some of the Old Navy winter commercials. I just did some work on the new movie “The Social Network” with Justin Timberlake. I’m on the cover of Import Tuner this month and working on a few more magazine publications. I am slowly bringing back my website. I have a couple business ideas I am working on at the moment one being a development agency. Basically  I’m going to keep breaking molds and pushing limits.
