FABOLOUS EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
CHAMP MAGAZINE
Hollywood

CHAMP:  What’s going on Fab?

Fabolous: What’s the word man, what’s going on?

CHAMP: Not much, not much definitely want to holla at you about Loso’s Way I have to applaud you on your work on that album, it’s a definite banger. In terms of the message you were sending with that album, do you feel that people received it the way you wanted them to?

Fabolous: I definitely think people received it well. It had got leaked a couple of weeks before it’s actual release and people still went out and supported it. I was very thankful for that because I didn’t know how it would be taken from there. I didn’t know if people got their hands on it and was like “were cool with it” and that’s it, but people received it well, and everywhere I went after people knew the songs, they were complementing the songs, it was received well and I was thankful for that.

CHAMP:  Out of all the joints on the album, which is the one song people are telling you to hurry up and make a video for?

Fabolous: There are two, one is called “Imma Do It”. They been telling me to make a joint for that, and one was the “Makin Love”  joint a lot of the ladies wanted me to do the “Makin Love” record. Between “Imma Do It” and “Makin Love” they have been asking for those two.

CHAMP: You always gotta make sure the ladies are feeling right about the joints you pick. What are the major differences you have seen as an artist or in the studio when you compare “Ghetto Fabolous” Fab to “Loso’s Way” Fab?

Fabolous: Just growth, just being able to see different things at that point. That was me talking from my experiences up until that point. “Loso’s Way” Fab has seen different things and has been a few more places, just growth and evolution.

CHAMP: There’s a personal contrast on “Ghetto Fabolous” as well as “Loso’s Way”. One thing you also mentioned that a lot of people never heard from you about was of course your “heir to the throne” your son. How is he doing?

Fabolous: He’s doing good. He’s almost about to be 2 so that’s a great thing that he’s continued to blossom as well and grow. I have been able to in between shows and everything I have to do, see him grow as a kid too.

CHAMP: Recently you were in the news for a food poisoning incident that happened. If you could break the people off with what happened, how you’re doing, and which restaurant to stay away from to avoid that.

Fabolous: Lol. I can’t 100% confirm it was food poisoning. I got a little sick, I had ate a little while before it. I kind of jokingly said something on Twitter. One problem I am having is I’m always misreading how strong what I say on Twitter gets taken. I really was just sick and it spiralled in to a car crash, which I guess got taken from when I was sick the ambulance came and got me from the side of the road and they came and got me from my car. I don’t know if someone saw that and said that “Fab got into a car accident” blah blah blah but I didn’t get into a car accident, I’m not even sure that I was food poisoned, I was just very sick and out of it.

CHAMP:  You had mentioned how Twitter is getting you in trouble. Do you feel that you have to hold back a lot these days, or even from before when you were twittering that you were holding back on things you really wanted to say?

Fabolous: Not really. I call it “Twitter-tainment” I just have fun on Twitter, crack jokes, crack jokes about people. It’s a social network where people go follow you and see what you say, I just try to make it as fun as possible. Certain people do it in their music, I don’t really do that in my music so with me I just do it as a way to entertain people via Twitter. Certain people take it to serious, certain people think that you say something and they’ll have a heart attack because you said it on Twitter, but I really don’t take it that serious and they shouldn’t really either, they should have fun with it, it’s another form of MySpace, a social network it’s not that serious.

CHAMP: Exactly, people are just taking everything people say to serious on that. Now on the MTV Hottest MC List you were placed eighth. Were you satisfied at that position? Or did you not even take that in, in terms of where you were positioned?

Fabolous: I mean it was cool I didn’t look at it as anything, it was cool to even be recognized by MTV, but another point is that it’s the opinion of four or five guys who make this list so it’s not the end all be all of hip hop it’s just actually a couple of guys opinions of who they think was the hottest mc from last year to that point. Some people say I don’t deserve to be on the list, some people say I deserve to be higher, some people are comfortable with the 8 position, I was just acceptive and cool with that.

CHAMP: Of  course the Toronto homie Drake he has been on the hush on what we can expect on his album, and of course we seen you on the “Best I Ever Had” and you guys did the “Throw It in the Bag” remix. Is it possible we might see you make an appearance on “Thank Me Later”?

Fabolous: I don’t know, if he reaches out. Me and Drake are cool, he’s on the “Throw It in the Bag” remix like you said so if need be he needs me I will be there for him.

CHAMP: I want to take it back to a few years ago to all the Loso fans that know about the original Loso’s Way Mixtape, definitely a classic and  has to be somewhere in hip hop as one of the biggest mixtapes of our time. Now in terms of that, people hold you responsible for single handily destroying Mase on that tape. Have you seen him since?

Fabolous: I haven’t seen Mase since.

CHAMP: Ok, ok so basically whatever happened died down now, but there hasn’t been any talking or anything?

Fabolous: Yeah it didn’t really grow into anything more. He had said a little thing about me and I really just had not answered his calling really of what he was saying. I wasn’t looking for an actual rap beef with him, it was something he wanted to state and I stated it too and fortunately it was left at that, because sometimes those war words turn into altercations too and I don’t think anyone really wants that.

CHAMP: I definitely have to ask you about Street Fam, when can we expect a Street Fam album?

Fabolous: We been working just trying to build it musical, we want the music and the foundation to be in place before we actually start pushing it out there. Certain people push out stuff and don’t really have the backbone behind it. When they have it out there they’re like now you need something to go off it, you don’t have it, now you’re kind of stuck. So we just wanted some stuff to run with when were ready to go, versus starting the car up with nowhere to go.

CHAMP: Speaking of Street Fam, Freck Billionaire he’s a beast as well. He recently went at Mayweather. What was your reaction to that whole situation?

Fabolous: I knew they were having some little problems, I didn’t go in depth with it but it was interesting. Freck is a cleaver writer, so only him and Floyd know what’s really going on so it was interesting and of course entertaining to hear but that’s all I really got out of it. I know Floyd from a different situation, and I know Freck from being an artist with me and I have always had his back and his artistry as well. So hopefully it can get handed in whatever way it can get handled, if not I hope they can continue progress in their separate ways.

CHAMP: That’s what’s up. We are entering 2010 what else can we expect from Loso?

Fabolous: Some touring I have to do before the year is out, my clothing line is being release this fall/winter, and that was kind of at a hiatus because we switched manufactures and distributors so now we got some guys with us that really see our vision and really want to make what we want to happen. That’s my main 2 focus to close out the 09’ and go into 2010 off the spring of that in to doing whatever else we got to do.
