CHAMP: What are you up to at the current moment?

Jay Sun: I’m kinda movin’ right now. Workin’ on my new mixtape I’m bout to drop like two weeks. We workin on a lot of videos. Basically we just cookin’ up and taken it to the streets right now

CHAMP: Of course you hail from Bronx –

Jay Sun: BX all day!

CHAMP: No doubt! Now how was your up bringing in terms of influences in hip hop?

Jay Sun: I was definitely influenced by Big Pun. He came from the Bronx and he opened these doors for the Latinos and we here, we just reppin’. It’s a big thing. The Bronx started it

CHAMP: Definitely definitely. The Bronx did start it and like you had said Big Pun was from the Bronx and Fat Joe’s always reppin’ BX with TS (Terror Squad) and all that. Where they a big drive towards you becoming the artist that you developed to be today?

Jay Sun: Well, Pun was a big influence and I’m from the Borough we came from the streets and I love hip hop and hip hop is in me so this is what it is

CHAMP: Incase cats who are hearing your name for the first time are peeping this and wanna get a comparison of your work, who would you tell em a lot of people compare you too?

Jay Sun: People were sayin’ at first I sound like Joe, people said I was flowing like Pun and it was just a lot of comparison but beyond all that I’m just me and that’s what it is right now

CHAMP: What’s the type of content that can be heard in your music. Is just street or can you switch it from the club to the women etc

Jay Sun: Oh I’m versatile. Versatility that’s what it is. I do it all. We could do the club, we could do the streets, we can do it all

CHAMP: Of course with the music these days. There saying a lot of cats on the come up are the future of hip hop like the XXL feature that had the Class of 08 that all felt that they brought something different to the table than the rest of the cats that were on the cover. What’s Jay Sun bringing that’s different?

Jay Sun: I’m just bringing that realness. That’s all it is. I mean right now you just gotta be real. That back in the day feel, but it’s just a new breed. It’s time for the new breeds to come out. It’s time for the young dudes. I’m only 23. I’m doing this for my up and comers that’s in my categories and that’s on my levels. This is what we do. All the older dudes that paved the way it’s cool but now it’s time for the new breeds and that’s when we slip in and start tearing down the streets.

CHAMP: That’s what’s up I got you on that. Now what projects are you currently working on at the moment?

Jay Sun: Basically my new mixtape will be out by April 3. I still don’t have a name for it yet, but that’ll be out April 3rd. We doing a release party and all that. Just did a tribute to Big Pun. A video on February 7, so that was kinda big for us. We just not forgettin’ where we from and we keepin’ it real ‘cause that’s what we do

CHAMP: Now back to the untitled mixtape. Who do we got featured on the mixtape producing-wise and artist-wise incase there’s any original material that will appear on this mixtape.

Jay Sun: Well basically right now. My new mixtape coming up there’s a lot of features. Shout out to my boy Freekey Zekey he’s on the mixtape. 730 Dips. My man Sen City’s on the mixtape. J.R Writer’s on the mixtape. We gonna have my man T Rexx he’s from Harlem, he on the mixtape. I got a couple producers from Germany. My Dj Manny Smalls out from Switzerland. We got a good line up on there

CHAMP: Now of course the team is beautiful you got great management behind you. Like what’s the team you runnin’ with. Are you with 730 Dips or do you have your own team that you got?

Jay Sun: Nah we got our own squad. We fuck with 730 all day. Capone is my brother

CHAMP: We in the first quarter. Actually we almost touchin’ the second quarter of ’09. What can we expect from Jay Sun man?

Jay Sun: We gonna expect a lot of new music, a lot of originality, a lot of dedication. Like I said man I love hip hop and this is what we do and we just doing real shit. You gonna expect a lot. We comin’ out with a lot. We got three new videos coming out. We gon’ shoot the Freekey Zekey video. Me, Freekey Zekey, Sen City and my man LS. So we got a lot of stuff comin’ up
