CHAMP: Oh man!
Yung Texxus: That shit gon’ be crazy my dude
CHAMP: I’m actually interested in how the name Yung Texxus was developed
Yung Texxus: To keep it short. I moved up to Delaware. My father was released from a prison bid and I moved up to Delaware to meet him when I was about 17 and he was just getting’ out of jail, and when I came up to Delaware, everybody started calling me Texas, Texas, Texas, Texas, so when I went back home to Texas, I was like a real big Jay-Z fan, and I use to always like when he be like “Young!” So I just added the Yung to the Texxus and out came was Yung Texx and Yung Texxus.
CHAMP: Now you hail from Killeen and how’s the hip hop scene there and what were some of the artistsyou grew up listening to. I know face is a big influence down there
Yung Texxus: I’m from Killeen and I grew up listening to back in the day the southern independent scene; we didn’t have an independent scene when I was growing up in the ‘90s so I was listening to a lot of west coast. A lot of Brother Lynch, Mc Eigt, Snoop, and Dre and just a lot of west coast stuff. Of course Scarface created the scene and that was real big for us. I listen to eveveryone, I listen to Snoop, Dre,Ice Cube, UGK, Outkast, Nas, even the big homey Common. The music was a collective sound not just one sound. I have a wide variety of sound.
CHAMP: Now what made you pick up the pen and pad and start writing rhymes?
Yung Texxus: I was pretty much born into it. My mom was a singer in the ‘80s my uncle was a rapper in Shreveport Louisiana and he use to write lil rhymes for me to say the rhymes and I’d say the rhymes and I was always interested in music and in 5th grade I was writing rhymes and it became something I really had passion for.
CHAMP: Now in terms of how you go to the status you’re at right now, how did the puzzle start piecing together to where you at right now?
Yung Texxus: I mean basically it’s been a long journey man and I’m still on the path to where I need to get you fill me but I mean it’s been a good ride I wouldn’t change it for anything . Coming up from a city name Killeen, which is also nowhere and moving back to Atlanta it’s been a wild ride. I was in The Source in 2005 for Unsigned Hype and that was a big push for me, and after that I recorded some underground smashes. Kelly Rowland “Love With My Ex” I did a couple joints with Tum Tum and pretty much the networking helped me become who I am to deal with Scarface and DJ Clue
CHAMP: Like you mention there’s the deal with you and Scarface and DJ Clue. Now what is your situation with Desert Storm?
Yung Texxus: Aight just to clear everything up, I’m not signed to DJ Clue or Desert Storm. Basically we formed a lil relationship a working relationship where he shopped me around to a few labels. I had a hot single called “Buss It Open” featuring Yung Joc and he wanted to put me in some places. I’m not really sure what the situation was but it didn’t work out. Me and Clue, we remain good friends but I’m not signed to him, but that’s my partner yo.

It’s been a blessing some people are starting to recognize

Yung Texxus: Yeah man it’s crazy man I grew up with Spark and that’s my cousin. Spark is a couple years older than me and back in the day I use to follow him around the hood when he was chasing hoes and all that, I was tryna do what he was doing and me laid the pathway for us to do what we doing. The chemistry’s good ‘cause we fam so you know. We got some hot shit together.
CHAMP: Now I heard some of your work and Sparks work, but a lot of Toronto didn’t peep your work until you hooked up with our homey Luu Breeze. I mean Sparkdawg told me that we can expect some heat from him and Luu Breeze but what about you?
Yung Texxus: Shout out to Breeze and his homey Big Tay. Spark hit me up with a remix and the Spark told him y’all need to hook up with my cousin ‘cause he doing his thing right now and y’all should fuck with him.
