SPOTLIGHT: MAGNUM 357 EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
Magnum 357 Interview
The Boy Hollywood
CHAMP: What’s Goodie with you at the moment Mag?
Magnum 357: I’m getting ready to start the east coast promo for the second installment of the Revolver Muzik mixtapes. We going hard with it.
CHAMP: Now you from MTL (Montreal) but your myspace states Real City. Explain that.
Magnum 357: The name Real-City explains it all pretty much in a nut shell. The city (Montreal) is hella real, and straight to the core. I speak it how I see & live it. This city was built by a weak government and developed on the backs of criminal organizations, so that’s why when you see the downtown lights and the tall busy city buildings, just know that the streets that surround those structures contain some of the realest stand up G’s over here on the east coast.
CHAMP: Now how’s the hip hop scene in Montreal?
Magnum 357: At the present time it’s still in its early stages. We have a lot of hidden talent out here that needs to be heard and the city will get its recognition in due time. I’ma make sure to do my part to make that happen.
CHAMP: Percentage-wise how many cats there are simply wack?
Magnum 357: (Lol) Y’all only asking me this shit cause you know I’ll give it to you real huh? I would say about 40% wack, 25% carbon copies, 25% underdeveloped with potential, and 10% up to par with the shit you hear bumping today. Real talk!
CHAMP: Now you hail from Little Burgundy. How’s the life out there?
Magnum 357: Being raised in Burgz (Little Burgundy) is a life changing experience for the better ‘cause the hood is so real. I mean you learn how to deal with so many difficult life situations that growing up somewhere in an upper-class area can’t prepare you for. Like survival through poverty, conflict resolution, loyalty, and how not to crack under pressure when shit hits the fan (lol). But ya experiencing all of these things is what made me the G I am today. Burgundy STAND UP!
CHAMP: When did you realize you wanted to start spitting?
Magnum 357: At like the age of 13-14 I knew a lot of cats round my way that would kill a cypher, and I felt I could do it too. So I started writing and letting some of my niggas peep it, and the all basically encouraged me to keep it popping. So because of them I ain’t gon never stop till I make it.
CHAMP: We all know what a .357 Mag is but why did you make that your name?
Magnum 357: From the first day that I owned one I fell in love with it, to the point where I realized that that particular calibur reflects my style in its entirety. My flow is like a head shot and my verses hit you like a 6 shooter. That’s why I chose the name.
CHAMP: You came out with the 2007 entitled Revolver Music Volume 1 and that kinda gave you that extra push what’s happened career-wise since you dropped that tape?
Magnum 357: Bigger opportunities and more venues for me to promote the Revolver movement. The first mixtape has put me in a space where I can control the direction of Real city hip hop as well as the development of its industry.
CHAMP: What are you working on right now?
Magnum 357: Right now I’m working on the third installment of Revolver Muzik plus my street album The Revolver Story produced by Dirtwork Productions, as well as trying to land some business venture overseas.
CHAMP: Now how did the whole thing with you and Malicious start?
Magnum 357: With who? Oh you mean Donatello (lol) well his manager Bailey had mentioned my name disrespectfully in a conversation with one of my promoters, as if to downgrade me as an artist and put his artist on a pedestal. Now me, I’m not one to knock anybody’s persistent strategies but if you mention my name that’s where you’ve caused yourself a problem. So I took it upon myself to retaliate and make an example of Ms Malish and them fuck boys, by releasing Warning Shots. After his lame response Female Traits, I finished him off with Trigger Happy and it was a wrap after that.
CHAMP: Malicious states it ain’t really nothing in terms of the intensity of the beef. Is that right?
Magnum 357: What beef (lol)? You call that beef? Listen, let me see this dude in the streets and I’ll show him what beef really is you feel me. This was more of a very clear warning that I don’t care who you are, who you roll with or what you’ve done. If you fuck with me then its LIGHTS OUT for you. goodnight (lol)
CHAMP: What else can we expect from you?
Magnum 357: A lot of club bangers to come, more Revolver Muzik moves to be made and my face all over North America for y’all to get used too. Shout out to CHAMP Magazine for holding me down. Respect 100 I’m out
